Dr. Ray Henley is that cool dentist your mother warned you about. Now, he’s the one she and all her friends go to for root canals, implants, and any procedure where artistry is just as important as the cutting-edge science behind it. A former 14-year-old professional drummer, Dr. Henley bucked rock star tradition and decided to become a dentist, to the great relief of his parents. He had a cool dentist growing up, and felt a personal calling to show people who are normally petrified of the dentist how it feels to take care of things as soon as possible from someone who gets it.

Turning point in life:  Meeting my wife

How I met my wife: I met Judy from a blind date. What stood out to me was her beauty, confidence, and her compassion. She had moved back to VA. From Fla. To help take care of her dying sister and her family as they were going through this.

We both had an interest in wine so our second date was to the Richmond Winefest.

Greatest feat: Getting my wife to go out on a second date!

Pet peeve:  Not turning off the lights when done with their use

Fave Restaurant:  Cochon on Second I love their atmosphere, service and food.  Also they have a great wine selection.

Fave dish at Cochon on Second:  The scallops

Favorite Wine: I am primarily a red wine drinker. My favorite winery is Bravante Vineyards on top of Howell Mountain in Northern Napa. They don’t release their red wines until they are at least 3 to 5 years in the bottle. This allows heavy reds to mellow somewhat.

Favorite vacation spot: Napa/Sonoma

Tips for vacationing in Napa: Tips for visiting any wine country is if at all possible, get a driver. That way you can relax and enjoy the venues and the tastings.  Also find the smaller boutique wineries. I love hearing the back stories of the owners and winemakers on how they got into the business.

Cat or Dog Person: Dog person, I have a English Bulldog Named Izabella.
