Abscessed Teeth and Infection

An abscessed tooth is a pocket of pus, typically caused by an infection and the spread of harmful bacteria. This results in the tooth’s soft core swelling, and because that area contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue, an abscessed tooth is quite painful. When our patients complain of long-lasting pain in one or more tooth, a dentist completes a thorough examination for any infection that may be causing the problem. An abscessed tooth may be one such problem. Move past your tooth pain, and talk to your dentist about finding relief. Contact Norge Dental Center in Williamsburg to make an appointment.

How Norge Dental Center Can Treat Your Abscessed Tooth

Chronic pain and discomfort accompanies an abscessed tooth, and you shouldn’t have to suffer. Norge Dental Center typically corrects an abscessed tooth in one of two ways:
  • Antibiotics: Depending on the case, your dentist might prescribe and administer antibiotics in order to kill an infection.
  • Root Canal: If the infection has spread to the pulp or lower bony structures and antibiotics are ineffective, a root canal may be necessary. This procedure involves removing the dead and infected pulp to restore the tooth to a healthier state.
